So, we lived in Brandesburton for about a year-and-a-half and never had a problem with any neighbors. Actually I thought they were all pretty nice. Until one day...
A little back story: We like to play in the front yard. The back yard is a little small and has a pond filled with fish. The front yard is a nice big U-shaped driveway. We play soccer, catch, pogo stick, scooter, basically everything! We usually even have a bunch of neighbor kids over playing too! Well, not very often, but sometimes a ball will go into some of the neighbors yards. The neighbor to the left was super wonderful and when we apologized she said it wasn't a problem and that we could go over there and get our ball anytime! That is what normal neighbors do, right? Well, the neighbor to the right clearly has nothing better to do than to harass people. She got very grumpy. We apologized but that wasn't enough. She did not want balls going into her yard. She actually yelled at my kids several times and even put Delaney into tears. We tried really, really hard not to get anything into her yard, but accidents happen. We actually parked the car in the way so it would deter any balls! If a ball went into her yard the kids would all panic, run in the house and try to decide who had to go get it. If they were lucky they could ninja crawl over there without her seeing them. But sometimes they would get caught! Once, she refused to give the kids the ball. She wanted to talk to me. I went out there all nice and apologetic and told her that we would try really hard not to let it happen again. She then proceeded to yell at me! So, I kind of yelled back and said that I wasn't going to stop my kids from being kids! She could just deal with it!
Now, I know what you are thinking - she must have an immaculate yard that a ball could damage... well, check it out for yourself.
Yep, that's it. Not much going on in that yard! And yet, we get yelled at! If you look closely you will see a little pink bouncy ball. Nobody wanted to go get it. She just sits and looks out her window so she knows when she should yell at us! One time she actually came home from somewhere and my kids were in the front yard playing and she said It looked like they may have gotten a ball in her yard! Seriously, how would she know that? Were her rocks moved a bit?! Crazy old bitty...
One day she took our ball into her house. The kids told Wes and he said he would go take care of it. He walked over there with a very nice attitude and knocked on her door. He apologized for the ball going into her yard and asked if we could have it back. She refused and started yelling at him. Wes said, I don't want to argue but if you won't give us back our property we will have to call the police. She just kept yelling. Wes walked away and said, I really don't want to argue. He came in the house and actually called the police! He didn't want it to be a big deal but she shouldn't keep our ball! We have even told her that if anything ever gets damaged we would happily replace/fix it! Anyway, the police came to her house and got our ball for us. We weren't home so the officer just put it into our backyard. Before the officer came the lady called our landlords! Can you believe it? She tattled on us! The poor old lady needs to find a hobby...
